What it does#

Revenue attribution reports revenue readiness: revenue totals, paying profiles, how much revenue is unattributed, and breakdowns by platform and app version.

When to use it#

To find out whether your revenue data is attributable before you build anything on top of it. The unattributed figure is the number that matters here: if a large share of revenue cannot be linked to anything, no attribution work downstream will succeed, and you have an instrumentation problem to fix first.

Also to compare revenue across app versions, which is a genuine use — a release that broke a purchase flow shows up here.

Workflow#

  1. Read the unattributed figure first

It is the honest measure of your revenue data quality. High unattributed revenue means purchases are arriving without a linked profile.

  2. Fix attribution by fixing identify

Revenue attaches to a user. A purchase from a session that never called identify cannot be attributed to anyone. See Identity.

  3. Compare across app versions

A version with disproportionately low revenue is a suspect release.

Permissions and prerequisites#

Requires purchase events carrying revenue, currency and a transaction id — as the empty state says explicitly. For revenue to be attributable to a person, identify must be called.

Limits and edge cases#

  • No campaign dimension. Per the note above.

  • Unattributed is not lost revenue. It counted toward totals; it just has no owner.

  • Platform and version come from the event context, so they are as accurate as the client's own reporting.

  • Client-reported revenue carries the usual caveats — see Transactions.

Troubleshooting#

Empty page with revenue elsewhere. Purchase events are missing one of revenue, currency or transaction id. All three are required.

Almost everything is unattributed. Identify is not being called before purchases complete. That is the fix.
