What it does#
MRR and ARR, with monthly bars and a movement breakdown showing what grew and what shrank.
The number is computed one of two ways, and the page tells you which with a mode badge:
| Mode | Source | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Real | The subscription lifecycle ledger | Computed from actual subscription events — started, renewed, cancelled, expired. |
| Approximated | Purchase history | Derived from subscription-tagged purchases, because no lifecycle events exist. |
When to use it#
As the standing revenue trend. Movement is the more informative half: MRR going up is not one fact, it is new plus expansion minus contraction minus churn, and those four move independently. A flat MRR hiding large new and large churn is a very different business from a genuinely flat one.
Workflow#
Check the mode badge first
Everything else depends on it.
Read movement before the total
The total tells you where you are. Movement tells you where you are going, and which of the four components to work on.
Watch contraction separately from churn
Downgrades and cancellations look similar in a total and require different responses. Contraction usually precedes churn.
Permissions and prerequisites#
Real mode requires subscription lifecycle events. Approximated mode requires revenue-bearing purchase events tagged as subscriptions.
Limits and edge cases#
Currency handling matters. Multi-currency revenue needs consistent reporting; mixed currencies without conversion produce a meaningless total.
ARR here is MRR × 12, which is the standard convention and not a forecast.
Approximated mode reacts late to churn — see the warning above.
A refund is not a contraction. Refunds appear on Refunds; they do not reduce recurring revenue.
Troubleshooting#
MRR looks too high. Check the mode. Approximated mode counts subscriptions that may have lapsed.
MRR is zero with revenue arriving. Purchases are not tagged as subscriptions, so nothing recurring is identifiable.
